There are many individuals and groups within a community that can help to combat and stop discrimination. Some of these include:
Youth clubs
They can organise events to help young people get to know and make friends with people from different religious and cultural groups. This helps young people to develop understanding, tolerance and acceptance of differences.
Schools
They can give young people the opportunity to mix with other students and encourage inclusion and working together. They also run LLW classes where students can learn about and appreciate other peoples' cultures.
Celebrations and festivals
These can be organised by the local council to help raise awareness of cultural diversity within the community. They can help people learn about and experience other cultures and promote tolerance and understanding.
The police
The police can work with local community groups to help prevent racism/sectarianism in the community
