Self-reflection and self-evaluation on your interview is an important part of the interview process as it can help you to improve on your future interviews.

Self-reflection and self-evaluation allows you to look at what you did well and what you could do better next time you have an interview. By answering a few questions, this part of the process can be done very effectively and within a short space of time.

The questions you should ask yourself include:

1. What went well? (List 3 positive statements)

2. What would you change for the next interview?

3. What questions were you asked?

4. How did you answer these questions - what did you say?

5. Which questions were difficult to answer? Why was this?

6. How could I be more prepared for the next interview?

QUESTIONS YOU COULD BE ASKED:

Explain two reasons why a person would carry out a self-evaluation after attending an interview (4 marks)

A person may reflect on how well they answered the questions. If they struggled, they can practise better responses for future interviews, helping them feel more confident and prepared next time. (2marks)

A person may think about how they came across during the interview—whether they made good eye contact, spoke clearly, or used positive body language. Improving these areas can help them appear more confident and professional in future interviews. (2marks)

Discuss areas for improvement which a person can reflect upon after a job interview (6 marks)

A person should reflect on whether they fully understood the job duties and qualifications. If they struggled to answer questions about the role, it may be because they didn’t research it well enough. (2marks)

First impressions matter, so the applicant should consider whether they dressed appropriately for the interview. Dressing professionally shows respect for the employer and can help the applicant be taken more seriously. (2marks)

Reflecting on whether they arrived early enough to relax and review their notes can help the applicant improve next time. Being early shows good time management and helps reduce stress before the interview begins. (2marks)
