Ways to improve emotional health

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

What is emotional health?

Emotional health is about the way a person thinks, feels and how they are able to cope with life in general.

How can a person improve their emotional health?

  • A person could form new, or maintain friendships, so that they have someone to talk to and share feelings with.

  • A person could try to be positive when talking about themselves so that they maintain a good level of self-confidence and self-esteem.

  • A person could join a club or society and this would give them a sense of belonging and more people to talk with about different things.

  • A person could take up a new hobby or interest and so meet regularly with like-minded people and share interests.

  • A person could maintain a balanced diet so that the body and brain gets the nutrients and minerals it needs to work at an optimum level.

  • A person could increase the time they are physically active as chemicals are released in the brain that improves mood and happiness.

  • A person could join the gym or an exercise class as taking part in exercise can help to improve a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence, making them feel good about themselves.

  • A young person could take up exercising which helps to relieve/escape the pressures/stresses of school and family life.
